Bloomberg reports a "who knew" moment. Since 1960, private sector job growth when Democrats resided in the White House almost doubles the growth occurring when Republicans resided there. This despite the republicans holding the presidency 5 years longer than Democrats. The average number of jobs created during a Democrat's residency is 150,000, compared to 71,000 for Republicans.

Senate candidates think minimum wage laws unconstitutional

Two Senate candidates have claimed regulation of the workplace by Congress is unconstitutional. This despite a unanimous Supreme Court upholding the validity of the Fair Labor Standards Act in 1941.

Politics at the Board

I have to chuckle when I see posts like this complaining that the NLRB is political. Its designed that way, and pretty much has been institutionally an entity which furthers the interests of unions an unionization. It's that way because the NLRA is that way. One need only read the Section 1 "Findings and Policies" 29 U.S.C. § 151.

Brown's election

The Massachusetts's election of a Republican to replace Ted Kennedy is a dynamic political event. But the interesting story is how will Democrats react. Labor has this right I think, here and here, but the Democrats' reaction is likely to go exactly opposite of producing results. Any significant labor reform is dependent upon Democrats seeking results, more than the fact that they have only 59 senators. A failure to provide results to their base, and by that we do not mean just labor, will result in significantly fewer Democrats in the next congress.
